If the PDF contains no embedded file attachments, the tool will display a message indicating that no attachments were found. This is perfectly normal for most PDFs, as file attachments are an optional feature. Only PDFs specifically created with embedded attachments — often for documentation packages, legal exhibit sets, or technical deliverables — will have files to extract.

Can I preview attachments before downloading?

The tool lists all found attachments with their file names, file types, and sizes before you download them. You can see what each attachment contains based on its name and type, allowing you to decide which ones to download. A bulk download option lets you get all attachments at once as a ZIP archive, or you can download individual files selectively.

What types of files can be attached to a PDF?

PDF attachments can be any file type: other PDF documents, Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), images, audio or video files, ZIP archives, or any other file format. The attachment is embedded as binary data within the PDF container. When you extract the attachment, you get back the original file in its original format, just as it was when embedded.

Are extracted attachments the same as the originals?

Yes, attachments are stored within the PDF as exact copies of the original files. Extraction retrieves the embedded binary data and reconstructs the original file, so the extracted files are byte-for-byte identical to the files that were originally attached. No conversion, modification, or data loss occurs during the attachment and extraction process.

Can I extract attachments from encrypted PDFs?

Encrypted PDFs encrypt the entire file contents including attachments. To extract attachments from an encrypted PDF, you must first remove the password protection using the Unlock tool. After unlocking, upload the unprotected PDF to extract its attachments. If you do not know the encryption password, the attachments cannot be accessed.
