Header & Footer
Add custom headers and footers to every page of your PDF, with the ability to include static text, automatic page numbers, and date fields in the left, center, or right positions of each zone. This is useful for adding document titles and company names to reports, inserting revision labels on technical drawings, or applying consistent branding to multi-page documents before distribution. You can configure the font, size, and color of the header and footer text independently. The tool applies the chosen layout uniformly across all pages in a single pass.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this tool really free?
- Yes, all our PDF tools are completely free to use with no hidden costs, subscriptions, or per-file charges. We support the service through non-intrusive advertising, not by charging for basic document operations. You can use any tool as many times as you like, with no daily limits, file size restrictions, or account requirements whatsoever.
- Are my files secure?
- Absolutely. All PDF processing happens directly in your browser using local JavaScript and WebAssembly libraries. Your files are never uploaded to any server, never stored in the cloud, and never transmitted over the internet. The files remain entirely on your device from start to finish, giving you complete control over your sensitive and confidential documents.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No registration or account is required to use any of our tools. Simply navigate to the tool you need, upload your file, configure any options, and download the result. There are no sign-in walls, email verification steps, or profile setup processes. We designed these tools to be immediately accessible without any friction or onboarding.
- What browsers are supported?
- Our tools work on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Brave on both desktop and mobile devices. JavaScript must be enabled for the tools to function. For best performance with large files, we recommend using a recent version of Chrome or Firefox on a desktop computer with adequate memory available.
- Can I add page numbers?
- Yes, you can add automatic page numbers in the header or footer using a variable placeholder like {page} or {totalPages}. The tool substitutes these automatically during processing, inserting the correct page number on each page. You can format page numbers as "Page 1 of 10", just "1", or any combination with surrounding text and punctuation.
- Can I skip the first page?
- Yes, you can specify a starting page for headers and footers, allowing you to skip the cover page or title page which typically should not display page numbers or headers. You can also select a specific range of pages to apply headers and footers to, giving you full control over which pages receive the header and footer content.
- Can I have different headers and footers on different pages?
- You can define a primary header and footer that applies to most pages, and set options to skip specific pages like the cover or back matter. For fully different headers on alternating pages (like left-hand and right-hand pages in a book), you would need to apply the headers in two separate passes β once for odd pages and once for even pages.
- What formatting options are available?
- You can customize the font size and color for the header and footer text, adjust the margin from the page edge, and independently configure the left, center, and right zones of both the header and footer. This three-zone layout allows professional designs like placing the company name on the left, a document title in the center, and the page number on the right.
- Can I add a date or document title to the header?
- Yes, you can type any fixed text into the header or footer zones, including the document title, company name, project codes, or the date. For a dynamic date, you would enter the date as static text at the time of processing. Variable date insertion (like automatically using today's date) is not supported, so add the date text manually when you configure the header.
